Thought that would get your attention. If you all would, please spread the word that we are opening the track to anyone who wishes to come and test their skills on the full road course. On Sunday, January 31, The Circuit Grand Bayou will be hosting a track day and will run it "SOLO 1" style, meaning up to two cars will be able to be timed in a 3 lap run. This being our first event of this type, it will be very informal and only the best time of the three laps will be recorded. Again, anyone can participate, rules will be very simple and the safety requirements will be no more than would be needed for an auto cross. An entrant can run as many times as the line will allow. We would like to see this turn into a monthly event and give more people a taste of what we do at the track. Gates open at 11am and the runs will take place from noon until 4. Entry fee is $35.00 per driver, spectators are $5.00 at the gate. Circuit Grand Bayou Members are invited to participate at a reduced cost ( $20 ). Concession stand will be open from 11 - 2. There will be no registration other than at the gate the day of the event. If you have any questions or comments, please post on this thread and I will check in often and reply as needed. Thanks in advance for your time and support! Chris W.

Negative Nancy just bring your video camera. Can we do a chase cam and strap him to the hood of a following car?

Negative Nancy just bring your video camera. If you guys don't see an issue with it, go for it. It seems like a liability to hold a competition without safety requirements, but hey, what do I know. Do it to it. Hows that for positive, @sshole?

Andy,
On a serious note, even in SOLO 1 novices are allowed - they gotta start somewhere and I am thinking it's safer than a lapping day since the safety crew can really focus on one car at a time. So safety wise I think we should have: the standard driver's meeting, a novice safety orientation (with basic instructions of how to run the course), and 2 or so parade laps. And STRONG Encouragement that this is NOT a race.

But it is a race.
On the upside, I would imagine that the novices will be a little reserved, but in the odd chance that you have somebody that's fired-up....
Don't get me wrong; I like the idea and I'm sure I'm not bringing up anything that Ken and crew haven't thought of. I should have just left it alone. My bad.
I wish I could be there, but I am going to the Spanish Town Mardi Gras Ball the night before and I doubt I'll be up in time. You guys have fun and be safe.

You guys have fun and be safe. has your definition of racing changed? you had a battle back with t on the dissimilarities of race\de. i agree with you there are differences, but for you to say a solo event is a race now i am baffled. i think the event equates to a modified lapping day that's really cheap. i could see more competition on lapping days with 5-7 new drivers in a green group. i think the level of intensity (aka adrenaline) will be lowered with only 2 cars at a time with say a drag strip apart. make a strict rule that if they go off course more than once they are done for the day.
