Event was fun! I set a new personal lap record - twice on cold tires in only one lap!
I reviewed data and we estimate that the car will go actually .5 to 1 full second faster than it did on these laps based on how much better the grip was getting as the run went on. MR2 could be VERY VERY fast for a door slammer!

Looks like you knocked the Rhino down another notch in the fastest door slammer lap at CGB. Nice job!

Based upon the big grin and the excited discussion from my wife on the drive home, it looks like I may need a bigger trailer... oh and another race car. Thanks for the turbo offer G-man, but I still have another 944 N/A in the wings that could become a track car... Seriously though, I thought today was a great success. I know my wife had a blast in the racecar, and can't wait for the next solo trial day. I also know that Ed had a great time in his Dodge Charger. This was a great idea and I want to thank the powers that be for putting this event on. Walt- One thing you may want to go over with her prior to her next outing is shift points. When we were down in turn one, we noticed that she was coming into the corner with the clutch in and letting it out mid-corner. That's a big No-No. I'm not sure if she was downshifting or just pushing the clutch in when she was on the brakes, but that is something that needs to be changed. It was the same situation in 2 and 8-9; we couldn't see anything else. She needs to be in the correct gear before the turn. One way to help her fix this: Next track day, make her drive the entire track in one gear, i.e third. Take shifting completely out of the game while she learns the track and how to handle the car. Then let her change gears in a couple of places, slowly giving her more and more control. The point is to help her develop a routine for the track, something that is repeatable. It seems like she had too much going on and needed to simplify her job in the car. A side effect of this shifting problem is being off throttle in the turn, which makes the car a lot less stable. She needs to learn to do her braking and be, at least, neutral throttle as she executes the turn. The car will feel much better through the turn and she will build confidence much more quickly. There should be no reason why an NA 944 shouldn't be able to go through turn one without braking and without lifting off the throttle. The drivers will have to train themselves to do it, but the car is absolutely capable.

The drivers will have to train themselves to do it, but the car is absolutely capable. Thanks for the info, I didn't see any of that until I watched the videos after we got home. I tried to give her some pointers beforehand, but she really didn't get it until after we watched her video together and I did some Monday morning quarterbacking with her. She's a strong willed, competitive woman, so I had to let her try it for herself and establish her baseline times and develop some deeper desire to improve. Now she is more eager to learn how to improve her times. Another issue we addressed is her tendency to drive down the center of the track like it was a single lane road. She now understands what using the whole track means. All in all I think she did great considering she hasn't had the opportunity to get in-car instruction while on the track. She says she will definitely be at the next SOLO day, at this point she is not interested in the wheel to wheel racing nor the DE groups, at least until she gets more comfortable with the car and the course. I'm still very proud of her!

Walt, I'm a newbie/rookie this year, and I can tell you that in-car instruction is a great big plus. The Porsche instructors or the CGB school, or even a Miata volunteer instructor on race weekend will ALL increase her learning curve by quantum leaps. I have had this instruction myself, and believe me, a teachable student can learn a lot from other drivers-which I am still doing, thanks to our drivers at CGB!
