Gary we don't have enough car to keep up with Mitch, motons or not. 2.7 liter plus a hell of a driver not to mention Robeling Road is a good hp track. Congratulations though on your outcome. Sounds like a familiar story....

David it the tub is good why was the front end sitting on the ground with the wheels still on it? What happened to your a-arms did they shear off of the frame ? Lane, the pin broke on the driver's side and the lca broke on the passenger side. Also the tie rod ends pulled out of the rack, giving the car a little extra toe out. New control arms and rack will correct that. The struts appear to be okay.

Here's the first couple of laps of the Heat race from my view. If you watch my rear view mirror just after I pass Troy's sideways car you can catch a glimpse of Troy & David's intersection. :-( David, I'm sure we'd all like to see it from your camera when you get a chance. I heard you described it was like a video game experience. I'm glad everyone's OK. vimeo.com/17558889Walt, I don't intend to post the "launch" as both Troy and I feel that it is in the best interest of the series to promote the better racing vids. That being said, I will e-mail the short clip if anyone wants it. Just e-mail or PM me your address. DC

Hmmph... David the wives may not like it but most think its cool as long as no one gets hurt. Besides that's why people watch car racing for the action and wrecks. But that's entirely up to ya'll.

What happened? A 3 car wreck?!? Marshall was right in front of me as we were accelerating on the straight and missed a shift. I ended up braking/swerving right to try and avoid him but got into his right side which sent me right into the wall, then i slid back across the track. DC tried fit in the gap between me and the wall, but there wasn't enough room and ran over my LF tire, launching him up on two wheels.

Agreed. I would have no problems running with the traffic if the GT turnout is low. Actually it might add a new dynamic to things.
My car was broken...but it's now back together and ready for the dyno again.

If the GT cars are combined with the bracket cars that would be awesome for 2 reasons from my personal viewpoint: (1) presuming the SMs were broken out and run as a class, I could (2) run with the bracket cars as well as with the SMs. I would like to run both classes. How sweet that would be! Two feature races the same day. Double the pleasure, double the fun, just like good ole doublemint gum!

Opened the thread and hadn't commented 'til now (but y'all all knew it was comin'... ;D).
Actually, I have honestly been too busy.
Dave, in your defense, (and those privy enough to have seen the vids from all angles - can watch now from the comfort of your chair past the point where Dave had to make a decision and say NO.! NO! DON'T DO IT....!), at the point where you mashed the gas again, with the data that you had available to process at that point in time, you made the right call.
The only other thing you could have done was come to a complete nose diving stop like I did in the Goddard spin incident last season.
I only made that call because I was 2nd row at the start with 10-15 cars behind and people were flying on all sorts of angles to avoid. I had no way to predict where they would go so I stopped dead straight and let it all fly past me. Paid a heck of a penalty going to almost dead last.
Here, three of your four optional directions were known.
To the left, the wall.....wasn't going anywhere.
To your rear, nobody there.
You could not go right because Walt was there.
I have a heightened level of self preservation and as all of you here at least know......I have never had four wheels off track and I have NEVER spun in DE, lapping or a race and to tell you the truth, I would have nailed the gas just like DC did because at the point where he made the call, there was room to make it through.
No amount of track time in close proximity with cars in any situation can prepare you for every possible variable (Yup Patrick....the engineer's inevitable nightmare....Chaos Theory), but I think posting the videos can still be a learning tool.

T, I hate to disagree with you big guy...but...until a car that has (is) been spinning comes to a complete stop, coming to a controlled stop is always the safest move, not mashing the gas. Dave, your first instinct was right, had you slowed down, Walt would have been enough ahead that you could have gone right as you slowed.
Yes, hindsight is 20/20, but...read the bold print.
I don't mean to be critical, I have made very simular moves and gotten lucky...and every time I watch the video or replay it in my mind, I think 'what a dumb sh-- move'.
Racing is a continuous learning experience, and T, I would rather come away from Dave's experience with the thought that I slow down, not mash the gas.
Dave, very happy you and Troy are ok and almost as happy that the cars will race again. You are a very safe racer, I'd run side by side with you anytime.

Sounds like an exciting day! I was at Roebling Road; took third of 12 SP2's in a three race points series. Mitch Richard was the undisputed first. Gotta love those Motons ;D What happened? A 3 car wreck?!? Way to represent the MGR! I might have to make that one next year. Anyone going to Sebring? Yep. I'll be taking the S2, but there should be lots of SP1 and SP2 and SP3 cars as the 944cup sries is racing with the PCA at Sebring. Hope you can make it.

Dave, very happy you and Troy are ok and almost as happy that the cars will race again. You are a very safe racer, I'd run side by side with you anytime. You aren't totally disagreeing, I have been faced with this same scenario several times and my choice in more than one was to come to a controlled stop, cost me 10 spaces while Eon and Lane got away in the front to a good battle that I was hoping to be part of. What I'm saying is, you have the luxury of seeing, from the driver's seat, past the moment when DC had to make a decision and by your own admission, he would have wrecked into Walt if Walt had heeded your "come to a controlled stop any time a car is spinning" as if it were a rule written in stone, had he lifted, braked and moved right, expecting Walt to follow your rule Walt would have been slamming the brakes......the car was spinning for Walt too remember. I'm not going to comment any further on this incident but I have seen all the views and I was standing on the wall at the starter stand by sheer fate (I always go to T1) where I saw the entire thing live and in person. I'm not pinning blame, I told Carver today that by chance, had Troy's car come to rest in the middle of the track, it could have potentially blocked both lanes and given Walt no room to the right, making a bad situation worse. I have had my share of situations where I felt I had to drive my car and the car for another driver too to avoid an incident and I have never hit anyone. Sticking with my earlier opinion, I see no fault in DC's decision at the point in time where a decision was made. In DC's vision, as he comes around the turn,1) he'd pick up the initial situation, the Honda spinning to the right, away from his side of the track, 2) he's as far away from potential contact as he could be, already as far left on the wall as he could go, 3) the Boxster is between his path and the Honda as an isolator, 4) the original trajectory of the Honda after the contact with the Boxster points the nose up track which would have taken up no more space than a normal car's width redeeming DC's decision. I'm 10-7 on this facet of the discussion, that's radio lingo G-man... ;D T

You aren't an IPCC data contributor are ya Andy.....? Move that data sensor away from the air conditioning unit cooling fan exhaust, your retrievals are beyond the maximum variable... ;D By the way, Hawking is an atheist who believes that something as complex as DNA just happened by chance even though scientists can't even duplicate the conditions that can even create RNA.... You have my permission to bring that up before class tomorrow so your peers will think you are deep and complex.... ;D T [edited because I signed off on that one twice, and although I have had a few contributions that were good enough to warrant two closures.....this wasn't one of them.... ]

Hey listen up everybody, the forum has been a little....erm, shall we say, s-l-o-w lately. I know y'all miss all the insightful postings I make in attempts to keep the ball rolling around here but I have been too busy to check in much even though I have two separate PCs permanently logged in. However...... ;D, if y'all were to make predictable monthly contributions to my paypal account, I could probably be coerced into popping in more often.... T
