One more thing, the wording of the Summer Series (Open to all GCRS license holders) may exclude you technically......

Also, like I said way earlier, it also states "with a current log book" and obviously, you don't have a 2010 log book.

You get these on the "tech days" that are announced before the season, usually you can present the car on the last lapping day before the season begins.

They try to get this in early to minimize the commotion and bottlenecks on race day.

You will need ,

Snell approved helmet
Series approved (usually FIA) driver's suit
Flame retardant shoes (FIA)
Flame retardant gloves (FIA)
Series approved head and neck restraint (HANS or Defender)

Car needs,

FIA approved seat or other seat with a seat back brace
5/6 point harness with a production date no earlier than 5 years-current
Operational engine cut off switch
6 point roll cage with two door bars per side
GCRS stickers displayed prominently (come with your logbook)

Bring all your stuff......driver stuff too when you present the car.

All dates and exp. of all these items are recorded on the inside cover of your logbook for quick inspection by any scrutineer.

And lastly....for EVERYBODY.....PRINT TWO COPIES OF YOUR TECH FORM AND BRING IT WITH YOU, it makes the tech line move way faster.

9. Can I race at the track?

Circuit Grand Bayou is home to the Gulf Coast Racing Series, which is a "club level" program that hosts events once per month from September through April.

Future racers must first attend multiple Drivers Education, (DE/Lapping Day), events held at The Circuit Grand Bayou and obtain a log book, which records experiences by an instructor/mentor. The instructors services are available to you at all open Lapping Days and Club DE events. Should you decide to apply for a racing license, you must present your log book to one of the Stewards and attend another Lapping Day/DE Event where you can be observed for approval. Details on the remaining requirements can be obtained by contacting [e-mail].

Established road racers are welcomed as well. We honor competition Licenses from NASA, SCCA, Porsche Club of America, BMW Club and many more. Send an email to [e-mail] with you qualifications and a track official will reply to you soon.

Thanks for the read T. All that info really cleared things up. Gonna need to check everything and upgrade appropriately then attend some DE's with an instructor and get everything on paper and in the log book. Even if I can't race I'll still attend the lapping days which will give me some practice so it's all good.

Not a problem....like I said, the waters on the step by step can be a little muddy.
There have been steps made to clarify and at least this info is out there on the website nowadays.

You're gonna have to seek out instruction at one of the monthly lapping days or seek private instruction if you are in a hurry because the next PCA DE isn't until October.

Not to say that you can't be deemed as competent enough just on the credentials you already have but you'll at least have to be signed off by a confirmation ride along according to the site.

Usually Chris or whoever gives the day's agenda in the morning meetings will state that instructors are available.....make sure to raise your hand and get one assigned to you.

All of the instructors that come to mind also are racers so you'll be in good hands.

Communicate to your instructor that you have a racing intent.

Keep this thread going even in the distant future if you have any questions......somebody will be along to answer.

Chris W. and Carver can help you get the driver safety gear at as reasonable a price as you'll find anywhere.

You don't need a 16oz. $2000 driver's suit.

Make sure to check carefully before buying anything that you don't already have.

It's a common mistake to buy the wrong thing the first time.

I don't believe that FIA cert is a requirement for any of our equipment. I thought that we used an SFI spec. Clarification?

That's probably right Andy, IIRC, all my stuff is FIA too though and I just worded it that way.

I'm going to work up a list of the minimum SFI numbers and compile a more detailed "how and what to" post for people who want to move from lapping/DE to racing as soon as I can.

Roger that Chris, I still need to come and pick up the last of the parts too, that is if they ever let me have a second to breathe around here, I am going to try for this week though, things seems to be dying down slowly .
