Gulf Coast Racing Series is setting up a test session on Saturday evening, February 20 from 5:30 until 8:30. This is being done in an effort to test feasibility of hosting a 400 mile endurance Race that will run into the night. We will be strategically setting up 4 diesel powered light stands ( like the ones you see on night time construction sites ) around the facility to enhance night vision . Entrants must have working head lights and running lights and be a 2009 / 2010 points scoring GCRS race car to participate. Testing fee will be $25 and will only be open to licensed GCRS drivers in good standing. Any comments or questions can be sent to me directly at office@copper.net. This should be a hoot! Thank you for your time.

Hey Chis, No lights on the #492 but how about I strap a couple of flashlights to the hood?

I have a car, but the previous owner removed all of the light. :-(
I guess I need to strap on some rally lights!

I'm in. Never used the headlight in the Miata, but I do know they work.
Is there going to be any points given for making road kill out of the local critters after the sun goes down?

Dude, It was great! It was so much fun to test your skills and see just how confident you are about what you think you know. The lights that were placed were in line and were more than adequete. We will definately need a couple more locations added to the original set up, but all in all the biggest lesson learned and most desired component of the night was Eon Simons can of window cleaner. You don't realize how dirty a windshield is until the glare factor is added. I talked with Lee Romine and got some great suggestions from him to help with the event. Any input we can get from you guys would be greatly appreciated. I feel that we will need to do one more night session sometime in early June to test the other two light positions and get more people envolved. Oh and the other thing we will need is a zooilogical attorney to rework the usage agreement we have with the deer. They think they can just run across the track anytime they want to once it gets dark. The # 76 car showed them differently!

Just a thought - depending on when the actual race is run, it may be nice to see if a mosquito control truck could make a run that evening to suppress the mosquito population. Not because they're aggrivating, but because of the aforementioned "glare problem". If you get a few dozen bug splatters on the windshield, it's gonna get hard to see.
And, if someone hits their wipers, you can forget about it!
I'd think that a call to the Parish government would be about all that is needed.

Good input Matt. There will have to be a lot of thought by the teams to prepare for things like what you mentioned. The night time will bring situations to the teams that will take some thought to get through. The darkness and lights will be a great equalizer for the faster crowd.
