After witnessing the bad accident Saturday by Joe Dupree i have three questions to ask. 1) Where is the ambulance that was always on side of the ticket booth? 2) Does this track plan on having a ambulance on site for all races or just NHRA Divisional races? 3) Does this track have a EMT on site for all races? Also everyone needs to pray for Joe Dupree and his family!

20 years ago most of the cars at the local track were running in the 10's...... Now they have a lot more running in the sub 8's..... We need a safety crew ready at the track at all times when cars are running on the track. Ask the local fire dept if they would like to help. I know they could help if you let them show up with a fire truck and feed them a hotdog and a drink. I am now putting a fire system in my car just in case this would happen to me.

I always tell people that drag racing is the safest thing you can do on a motorcycle because you are racing toward an EMT in an ambulance. If this is not the case, I don't need to be on the track. I'm not at risk for fire, but I sure would want any blood loss and broken bones to be treated ASAP.
I too would like to know the status of the on-site medical crew. One would think it would always be the same since almost every event includes 6-7 second dragsters.

One of the most dependable Halon 1301 and FE-36 systems available, Stroud Safety Fire Systems are safe to use under the most extreme conditions. Stroud has been protecting drivers and equipment for over 20 years. They continue the tradition with a range of fire suppression delivery systems for all motorsports.
One pound of Halon 1301 & FE-36 discharged for every 50 cubic feet of enclosed volume will achieve a 5% concentration in the air. This is sufficient to extinguish most fires with a substantial margin of safety. Stroud Safety Systems are designed to achieve the concentration within ten seconds, where upon combustion cannot occur. Any size enclosed area will be protected as long as a 5% concentration of Halon 1301 or FE-36 is present. Once the agent is diluted with fresh air to below the 5% concentration, the system begins to lose its effectiveness.
Halon 1301 & FE-36 has proven effective on the flammable portions of Class A fires (wood, paper, etc.), Class B fires (flammable liquid and gas), and Class C fires (electrical). It has also been found effective on deep-seated Class A fires if sufficient soaking time is allowed to dissipate the heat.
The DuPont Company concludes that Halon 1301 & FE-36, when used in concentrations of up to 7% by volume for several minutes, can be used in the presence of humans with a high degree of safety. Research has proven that concentrations of up to 7% by volume of Halon 1301 or FE-36 produce no harmful lasting physical effects on humans. However, in concentrations exceeding 7%, tests have shown that subjects experience feelings of lightheadedness and reduced dexterity. Under normal conditions, the agent does not have corrosive or other adverse effects on metal or plastic components.
Five-pound systems include bottle, head, mount, clamps, 3' pull cable, two 3-port nozzles (180°), one 6-port nozzle (360°), fittings, and 25' of tubing. Ten-pound systems include the same except a 6' pull cable replaces the 3' pull cable.

Re: Ambulance/EMT on site?
by Gary Carter » Mon Apr 29, 2013 8:09 pm
Yes SCR does have an ambulance on site that is stocked with medical supplies and we have a safety truck with a 150 gallon fire suppression tank that is operational, we have two sets of the Hurst jaws of life in case someone needs to be cut out of a wrecked vehicle with personnel that have been trained to use them as well as being certified EMT's. All of our safety personnel are certified. Safety is a priority at SCR. Gary Carter Posts: 785Joined: Thu Dec 18, 2008 9:30 pm

This is Kent, one of the partners of No Problem Raceway responding. We have heard from nearly 100 people, both negatively and positively, since Joe's accident. By MOST accounts, the negative comments have come from those with a separate agenda or those who were not there. The large majority of the comments we have received from those who were there, including Joe's immediate family, have been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. We feel we operate one of the safest racing facilities in the country based on our safety record and safety procedures. We have an EMT at each and every public event held at the facility, as we did last weekend. As a matter of record, from the time Joe's car came to a stop, our staff had the fire extinguished and had gotten Mr. Joe out of the car in 39 seconds, where he was immediately under the care of our EMT. It is of the opinion of Mr. Joe's family and others that our staff saved his life, and as a witness, I agree. We will continue to increase awareness and the importance of each driver to do his/her part in regards to the safety of his/her car, clothing, helmets, etc. as well as to continue to look for ways in which we can exceed our own high levels of safety standards. As we all know, but often forget, we choose to participate in a sport which can be very dangerous, and even fatal, even under the most prepared conditions. Our hearts and prayers are with Joe Joe and his family and we are getting updates daily. We will keep everyone informed if his progress on this site as well as on our Facebook page. Sincerely, Kent

Thanks for the reply. My question was do you have a ambulance with medical equipment standing by at all races? I was surprised to not see your track ambulance . I have been racing at NPR for the last seven years and got used to seeing a ambulance on side of the ticket booth for all those years and remember times that we would not start a race unless the EMT/ ticket booth person arrived. I also understand for a serious accident like Joe had a off track medical team/ambulance is needed. Joe you are in our prayers!

Kent thank you for the reply. Now is the time for all racers to have a self in posed safety check.Pull out the NHRA rule book & find what safety requirements you need for the class you are running. If you do not understand what you need find someone to help you. Also check your race car make sure your car is safe.Remember the the life that is saved may be yours. Richard Hotard

Regarding the track ambulance. This ambulance has always been used as a vehicle for storing and keeping all medical supplies and equipment and has never been used to actually transport anyone from the facility. While our ambulance is undergoing maintenance and service, all of our medical supplies and equipment are transferred to the EMT's vehicle each event day, as it was during the last points race and every other event.

Sad day today.. Shane Vicknair, friend and racer was shot and killed this morning at his Grandpaws shop... One of our second group of Jr.Dragster racers that I announced since he was a kid.. He had graduated to a running a blown rear engine dragster and continuing the Performance Specialties tradition of race cars... He will be sadly missed in our sport... RIP Shane.....My "Lil" dragster buddy...

Thank you Kent for the reply. I am glad to hear that all medical supplies are available when needed. I have been having mechanical issues and haven'rt race as much this year but just realized last week that the ticket booth ambulance was not put in service. I assumed you had EMT's trained in your staff. I agree with Richard, everyone needs to make sure their vehicle is safe to go the speeds its capable of. Also, Greg, i heard about Shane's death, my prayers are with him and his family.
