I would like to propose a change to the Spec Miata class at Circuit Grand Bayou for the upcoming 2012/ 2013 season. I propose that the tire be the choice of the driver, Hoosier, or RA1’s. If you think one tire is faster than the other than you have the right to run that tire. If you are OK with running another tire that you like better for whatever reason, so be it.

I agree with Ben, let each driver choose which ever tire (Hoosier, or RA1) he or she prefers.

My perspective is different than you guys. I wish the required tire would be RA1 only. The Hoosiers are certainly the faster tire at CGB and there is a marked advantage to running them over the RA1. Because NOLA is RA1 only, it makes for the need to run 2 different types of tires. This means multiple sets of tires and wheels, which flies in the face of the idea that SM racing is to be both affordable and competitive.
I would vote to keep the tire requirement only RA1(like all of NASA). A compromise could be had whereby the first few races either tire could be run, (to allow remaining tires to be used up) and then RA1 only there on out.
Thanks!

Vince makes a good point and with the state of the economy I can see that all the SM guys and gals running in NASA would want to run one type of tire at all events. So, I'm okay running RA1's if that's what everybody would prefer.

I personally have no problem with GCRS being able to run both tires, but in the past we have followed the SCCA rules. The GCRS is in a no win situation, if they choose RA1's then you exclude people that run SCCA and if they choose Hoosiers then you exclude people that run NASA. I am planning to run Hoosiers, they are faster and last longer than RA1's (IMHO) Shane
