GT3 - All 4 cylinder, Normal Aspirated GT2 - 2, 4, 6, 8 Cyl, Forced induction allowed GT1 - All tube frame, all factory specials (Porsche Cup, Competition Coupes, etc), All cars over 8 cyl. Bastard Cars - Engine and car of different manufacture (Chevy v8 in Mazda, Porsche, ETC.) Forced induction allowed.
This idea was passed to me. I thought I would air it out on the open forum. What do you guys think?

My input: keep it simple.
Red bracket is already mostly N/A 4 bangers - that's just where they fit well and compete well. We can adjust or remove the bracket restriction for the class as long as it's 4 banger N/A production cars. This would be a strong class.
Make GT3 and GT2 both bracket classes, the cars will naturally separate themselves. Reason being is that 4 cyl turbo and 6 cyl cars can race in GT3, and V8 and other faster production cars can run in GT2.
I would say GT3 fastest allowable = 1:21.50 GT2 fastest allowable = 1:19.00
In this configuration, my MR2 would be in GT2 w/ V8's since it is a FAST turbo car, but still production body...but Jeff Lutz and the Axis Cars would be having a blast racing in GT3.
I like the tube-chassis and factory special restrictions on the GT1 class - that's a good addition to put them in their own class.
I would still allow cross motor swaps into other classes as long as tube chassis isn't used. We all know that the tube chassis makes the difference on performance. An LS1 miata would probably breakout of GT2 anyway...again showing the flexibility of the breakout system.

I don't care, when's the next race?
But if I did care, I would be for continuing the bracket system straight through the GT classes, just set the time brackets and forget about displacements, turbos, frames, pizza toppings, etc
And for enduro's on Saturdays
And karts
And a NASA race or two

What problem is that proposal trying to solve? Keep it simple. We don't need to be racing rule books.

Here's a dilema to think about. Technically, Johnny Walters' Vette is NOT a tube-frame car. There is still a frame under there. Sure, it's surrounded by tubes. In fact, you could probably take the frame out and it'd be faster. But, it's not a tube-frame.

Agreed, I say we just extend the brackets up through GT.
No sense in 23.0 cars and 19.0 cars to be competing with each other! On track at the same time, sure, but shouldn't have to just watch cars drive away. Get back to simple, let whoever run wherever, HAVE FUN!
(going to pick up the new slicks today! - might have some new times posted after this Sunday!).

The statement above about Johnny's car is a false statement, everything on Johnny's cars suspension is still factory corvette parts, except the front upper control arms and front and rear springs. Johnny's car is just an autocross car that was built 10years ago 100% to SCCA rules.
Hmmm... Not bad for an old dog!

What class was it built for and would it still be legal?

It was prepared for B-prepared and dont really follow the SCCA autocross classing that close anymore, but on a side note I dont think any of the cars built 10 years ago are still legal for the class it was originally built for due to SCCA changing their rules like they change their underwear. As far as the diff cooler, that was done to "cut cost" as you would say. It doesn't give you any "speed" advantage to the guy without one.
