It's good to see Chris P. back on the roster for this race! Welcome back, Chris. Barry, Bob, Ben and I are already signed up, too, and hopefully Sara, Shane, Tommy, Keith, Brent, Kenny, Nate and all the other regulars will join in the fun. If we have 10 cars we can have our own distinct SM class!
It's potentially all different this year, or so it seems, with new Hoosier tires being brought in due to SCCA tire change. It seems the Tsunami has wreaked havoc at the Toyo plant so they can't provide enough RA-1s for SMs worldwide. So, the good ole USA mfg plant of Hoosiers stepped up to the plate. If you haven't gotten your tires yet, you can still use your RA-1s. I find that the Hoosiers are about 1/8" taller as far as ride height is concerned.
I am planning to do some more testing of the Hoosiers to see what pressures they are happy with. In preliminary testing it appeared that 37 degrees ran too cool (if you can believe that in 96+ degree ambient temps here in LA) and were greasy. Running at 33 degrees was apparently too hot and was also slippery. So, some where between those temps we might find the sweet spot. I'll be testing with pyrometer to see when they light up between 180-200, and try the pressures that give me that bracket of temps.
YOUR sweet spot may be wholly different from mine, though. The year of car, the style of your driving, the weight of your car, your set up, alignment, and the rest of the variables will dictate differences between our cars, so all I'm trying to do is help us find the air pressure "bracket". Heck, you might want different pressures front to rear, or right to left. God knows. I don't. If you don't like what I find out, remember: it's free info, so throw it away if it doesn't fit your fancy.
