The standard sized Hoosier tires are the official SM tire for 2012. We need to use them and practice with them to get used to the proper air pressures, etc, as I PROVED in summer series race #3. I had them set at 33 degrees HOT. Let me suggest to you that you NOT set yours that low, despite Hoosier's publications to the contrary. I suspect they will run best at about the same pressures as the RA-1s. Guys, how about we start running RA-1s along WITH Hoosiers (same size) starting in our first race? We could practice with them or with RA-1s and do the same for the feature races-depending on individual preference, UNTIL January 1st, when everyone needs to race only on Hoosiers per SCCA. What say you SM drivers? ?

What say you SM drivers? ? Reg, did you heat cycle the Hoosiers....? And I'm guess you are talking about the R6 not the A6 right...? Those pressures sound right. Generally, cars set up with Toyos should have more camber than the Hossier....up to nearly twice as much. Hoosier calls for -2.5-30 and Toyo -.3.0-5.0. How did the wear look across the tire and what were the temps straight off some hot laps...? Tires are an integral part of the suspension as a whole so spring rates etc. that work with an ra1 won't necessarily be optimum with an R6 or any other full width non-tread Hoosier competitor. Either way, after 5-10 heat cycles each, the ra1 will be at least the equal of an R6. The best is still left in the Toyo well after 10 heat cycles. T

Yes, the R6s are the road course Hoosier tires. I dialed back the camber on my car. But I accepted the Hoosier official publication which gave me the bracket for pressures both Cold and Hot. They were wrong. The HOT, for example, was only 31-34, but at those pressures the tires were greasy and would NOT hookup. I'll experiment with them to get the "right" pressures. Someone sent me 3 different recommendations from Hoosier, one of which was the "wrong" one I went with, calling for 31-34, but the last one called for 35-38lbs HOT. That's likely to be correct. We'll see. I'll also call Hoosier to check with their SM gurus.
Now, back to the RULE: I think it's time to faze them into our series, starting with the first race, while keeping RA1s legal, too.
T, yes I did carefully heat cycle the tires exactly as they instructed. That's very important in order to make the tires last longer.
