Registration for the upcoming GCRS Race Season will be available at clubregistration.net on Tuesday morning. Season Pricing, schedule and typical race day schedule will all be available on the site. Besides a points Championship for each class this year, we will also be scoring a Rookie of the year title. After each event, we will have awards presentations at the Red Line Sports Bar. Also new for this year, during all race day schedules, we will have 4 20 minute sessions for open lapping. Open lapping guys can have licensed GCRS Racers ride along as coaches to help speed up the learning curve. Registration for the open lapping sessions can be done at club registration as well. Tech forms will be available per request and at the track along with the ICE forms. All cars will have to have completed 11/12 and ICE forms before they take to the track on Sept 3rd. Chris

The 2011 / 12 Season is very special because it marks the beginning of our tenth season. To commemorate this special season, we will have special guest Grand Marshalls at each event. The Grand Marshalls will be people who were instramental in the development of the facility, and the ealry racing series. Names such as Winston Lanymore, Nick Hingle, Joe Issarello, Monte Shallet, Byron Burkhardt, Tom Quinlan and many more will be invited to talk at our drivers meeting and witness first hand the commitment to our series that our racers have to the series they helped start. In the upcoming days, the racing page of the website will have the 11/12 rules along with the history of the series and track, as told by Winston Landymore for you to read and reflect on. Please feel free to post any thoughts, memories from your road race beginnings. Look forward to seeing you all at teh track, Chris

This is closing in fast and I was supposed to meet Winston for lunch to go over the memorabilia. Man...I wish Burkheart still had that killer Rothman's 944T wide body....., used to be a 5treat to go watch that thing and in hindsight....it really wasn't all that modified. Short story about way back when...., and yeah, Eon and I have been going around there since he was 13 years old, back before there was even a blade of grass growing around the track, but, I would have been participating WAY before we eventually hit the track because I had secretly built up a very quick 944T after my first visit.....all I had to do was the safety gear to make it track/race legal and cage requirements were much more lax back then....so....I took the car out for a visit to get some tips on safety gear, John Scheurich and Ken LaBorde were driving the pair of red 'Crescent City Motors' 944Ts and although there might have been a misunderstanding....they told me I could not run the car in it's current mechanical configuration. I had invested thousands in turbo/engine mods and I just got disheartened and gave up. Came to my senses later and started building the GT3 944T to the letter of the PCA rulebook. Eon started about that time with his first track day, 3 years after the track opened on his 16th b'day gift of a 1 on 1 "HP driving school" with Winston as his coach. Converted the modded car nearly back to stock after blowing the turbo at a Brian Kemp track day....same car that eventually broke a rod after 10 years of being beaten on, and ended up as Cannon's #007 SP2 car. On top of the track plan drawings, maps, etc....I have a fair amount of pics from the early days of me and Eon with a lot of cars that used to run out there, Remember Scotty Buldock and that 996 TT monster....? Crawdads vs. Gators......? Hee hee....good memories. 10 years....., dang....! T

T, We would love to display the memorobilia you have in the lounge at the first event. We could even put a little card on it saying it is on loan from the Turbo T Collection.

I do have some personal stuff yes, but the main stuff I meant was the box of items that Winston asked me to hold onto. That stuff is really for Winston I guess, as much for the track entity itself too though....? I'll check with Winston to see if he needs to see it to remember what I have and then I can send it forward to you to check out via Harris or Brian...? T

Summer of 2001. First official track day. The paddock hadn't been poured...I don't believe they had started drag racing yet. About 20 of us 'paddocked' on the end of the drag strip and ran laps from there. It had to be 95 degrees out on that bright white, shiny new cement! And it reflected right back at ya. All you had to do to heat up tires was slowly push your car down to the start line.
In a session a few weeks later we had maybe 6 or 7 cars for an afternoon. It had rained like crazy all week and the infield was a swamp. During the last session, if you could call it that, I was the only car left on track and the guy at turn 1 (the only corner worker) decided to call it a day. Like a fool I decided to try a little less brake into 1 (it actually was a turn back then) and did a nice little spin. I tried to save it, again like a fool, and it snapped back onto the right side of the track and I slid sideways about 200 feet in 12 inches of muck. There was a tree that had been cut down and laid parallel to the ditch out by turn 2. I ended up stopping so close to the tree, I couldn't open my drivers door all the way.
After at least 20 minutes someone finally missed me and they drove out to see what had happened. Well, they all had a good laugh as I spent another 30 minutes snorkeling under my fiberglass rear bumper trying to get a strap around it. From then on Winston called me 'swamp rat' and my car and I really looked like one at the end of the day.
Yeah...good times and good memories!
