Have any of you done any STU or ITA Racing? I understand these to be Regional classes in SCCA, and that SMs can run with some modifications, including tires. What other mods can an SM do and run either STU or ITA? Does it matter whether it's 1.6 or 1.8? thanks.

From what I have seen in Houston you can be competitive with SM setup. It is a way to get the track time. You know that with SCCA races you qual in the morning, race in the afternoon. Two times on the track. ITA gives you more track time and it is a busy race, running about 8 classes at once. You always have someone to run. Kenny just finished 2nd or 3rd in ITA. He ran 5th or 6th overall. Out of about 15 cars. I think there was an 88 bimmer and the rest were miata's in ITA. You can pull the restrictor plate off of the 1.8 but you have to have time to switch back and forth. This last race Kenny had 1 race in between, just enough for fuel, water and ice. I don't believe they have a tire restriction but you have to have the time to change. Besides, it would change the way the car handles switching tires and if the purpose is to get seat time you want to focus on the track, not adjusting to a new setup.
