You guys who raced in the first race know what a blast we had tickling the asphalt. The heat was unusual, but nothing we couldn't handle. Who's planning on running in GT, Bracket, SM?

Second race of the season, action was the best so far. Reporting from the starters stand again, this is your on site reporter "SPEED" with the rest of the story. In an effort to beat the sprinkles, we upped the schedule and gave the guys the qualifying / practice session about an hour earlier than scheduled. Dennis Paul pulled out another personal best with a run in the low 21's. The top two miatas needed to go to the third digit to determine outside front row. The pace car gave the field an extra lap to make sure they all understood that the sprinkles were here but all that seemed to do was make them angry. At the drop of the green flag, Dennis lead the field with a pack of four, Reggie Simmons, Kieth Lanasa (driving Gerald Arceneauxs miata) Max George and Scott Grainger literally nose to tail. Ben Cherbonierre, Mike Haydel and Jason Kennedy rounded out the field for the first few laps. Jason made serious runs through turns one and two on Haydel and finally got around him between turns three and four on lap 5. There battle found them finishing in 6th and 7th place respectively. With the moist track Ben got caught between the two packs of racers and brought his miata home in fifth. Meanwhile back at the front while Dennis was clicking off his consistently quick laps, the "lead" pack was duking it out like a group of street fighters. At one point during the race, I called into turn one and requested he keep an extra eye on these guys because it wasn't a matter of when someone was going to overdrive one, but who. It wasn't two laps later, after Kieth finally stuck his nose in deep enough in ten to get passed Reggie, that he made an error that sent him spinning through turn three. The spin however did not seem to rattle the three chasers behind him as they stayed and duked it out for the remaining laps. Reggie worked his car so hard during the race, he had nothing left with two laps to go and was passed by Max and Scott. They finished in that order Max, Scott and Reggie. Kieth, oh yeah, he did work his way back and I do mean work. He was able to catch up with Scott in 14 with only a lap or two to go but used up his tires and couldn't make it stick on the straight. By the way, those sprinkles were were dodging, after the drop of the checkered flag, we didn't see any the rest of the day. Gotta get this stuff on tape, its too good to keep to myself.! August sixth is the summer series finale and we hope to see you all there. In other news, Brent, Kenny and Sarah participated in the Charity Race Event at MSR. We will update when the results are available. We also want to keep the Family of Tommy Barrios in our thoughts. He suffered the loss of his uncle on Friday and was not able to be with us this weekend in order to take care of his mother.

Great report of the race, Chris. Keith was driving the heck out of that #8, and I was fortunate to stay ahead of him most of the time. He helped hold off Max and Scott for me till the last ftwo laps. Thanks, Keith, though I doubt seriously you were doing me any favors! Congrats to Max and Scott for clean power-passes on the front straight. Chris, if you haven't already done so, how about posting the points for the past 2 races, or at least the top five? Have you guys posted the laps for #1 and #2 on Mylaps yet? If not, PLEASE post them asap!!! Thank you millions, er, trillions (now that Mr. Obama is in the White House.)
I working on video but it's taking some TIME to edit it down to vimeo size.

Reggie,
With about two or three laps to go you seemd to have a bobble or something between 9 and 10. What was that? It seemed to kill your momentum and give the chasers the upper hand. Just curious, Chris

Yes, there was a bobble there as i went too wide and allowed Scott to close up from behind. I don't know if there was a wet spot or tires were hot or I simply goofed, but I went wide, 2 wheels off. By then I had already dropped to 2nd place, and the car behind me didn't pass me till the front straight. In fact the track was slick all day, and I saw bobbling in front and behind me at different points on the track. Look at my vimeo, both in front of me and in my rear view mirror and you'll see cars spinning or bobbling at various spots on the track. But: I'll try to do better next time. Why don't you help by summoning up some cooler and drier weather for us? vimeo.com/26571344

Chris, thank you very much for posting the points for summer series, as well as for the "Rookie of the year" points. I think the Rookie recognition is a really good thing for the newbie drivers to be identified in that manner.

Wow, what a great time. All the guys in front were battling so hard, I learn so much by watching you all. I was so shocked at my second place finish that I am not sure that I congratulated Mr. Max so great job sir.
